Vermont Timber Works is proud to have been chosen for the Chapel for Holy Apostles project.  From the first visit with Jack Delaney, P.E. to meeting Father Mosey during the raising, a wonderful experience.  Thank you everyone.  Look for many more photos soon, as I’m just posting this quick.

Lobbies have always captured my attention while traveling. They can say,

“welcome” or “keep on walking!”

When lobby designers use heavy timber, it always says welcome…have a cup of tea…read your newspapers…meet someone special.

Where are the roasted chestnuts? Yes, another Grand Marnier, please,

while I check out these beams.

Some angles speak for themselves. Something like “ahhhh”…is what comes out of me.

Some angles are nice to study, to see all that the architect created. The angles seem to play with you…the eye cannot rest.

No mediocre here!

It’s never just a building when heavy timber is involved.

Pegs, unaccompanied, hold these timber joints together.

When I look at structures built by Vermont Timber Works, that fact never ceases to amaze me. Pegs can be strong! They are really just simple wood sticks yet,

intricately positioned, pegs create a counter force that is strong enough to face weather changes, the earth shifting and, of course, heavy loads.

Pegs are much prettier than nails, screws, or bolts so I like VTW’s traditional joinery best.

The arch is pretty cool too.

Post and beams and raking leaves…this time of year is so pretty. Nice view from this native hemlock timber frame party barn!

I’ll pull my car under a porte cochere when those skies threaten.

It took timber trusses to build these porte cocheres. I love that word (port-ko-’sher).

Isn’t the timber beautiful? Steel would never have looked as attractive. Nice choice!

What goes into a post and beam home you ask?  Ok, you didn’t ask, but I’m going to tell you. The posts and the beams of course.  Don’t forget the braces, connectors, plates, joists, the roof system which may be a structural timber ridge with purlins or rafters.  What did I forget?
